One thing to keep in mind is that many of the high weight limit SUPs are longer boards.

As you can see, there are quite a few good options out there for those of you who weight over 250 pounds.

And yes, most of these SUPs are inflatables simply because they can handle more weight.

Keep in mind that you get better stability out on the water on boards that are thicker and wider.

And often, people find that longer boards are easier for them to stand on (the longer boards are also great for using in the ocean for a bit of small waves surfing).

Most of the boards on the list above are all arounder SUPs, which means that they perform well in all types of water conditions.

Stand Up Paddle Boards For 400 lbs to 1,000 lbs

If you’re a heavier person, or looking for a tandem SUP that can carry two people, then this is the weight limit category that you’ll want to pay attention to.

All three fins can be removed, which makes it easy to transition from the ocean to the river and still have a great experience.

You can even use this iSUP for fishing since it has so much room for your tackle box and a seat.

Tower Xplorer 14′ Inflatable SUP Review

This board can support up to 800 pounds and comes with a pump and adjustable paddle.

It has high quality construction, so you can expect it to last you for several years to come.

The shape of this iSUP makes it perfect for racing and touring.

It moves quickly through the water and is great for those long afternoons paddling.

And since it is so long, there is enough space for you to take your dog or kid out there with you in the water.

Overall, this board is very stable in the water and a lot of fun to use.

Red Paddle Co Voyager Tandem Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board – 15′

This SUP performs like a hard board and ports everything but the kitchen sink, without sinking.

Plus, it was awarded “Best Group Vessel” in Outside magazine’s 2018 Summer Buyer’s Guide.

iROCKER All-Around Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board 11′ 6″

If you’re looking for something affordable that performs well with heavier riders, then this model from iRocker is a great choice.

Based on value for the money, we think that this is the best inflatable SUP for heavy riders right now.

Stand Up Paddle Boards For 300 lbs to 400 lbs

Don’t need something capable of tandem paddle boarding adventures, but still durable enough to carry a heavy person over 300 pounds?

We’ve got a few great options for you to choose from in this weight limit range.

California Board Company Ten Six Classic SUP Package

If you’re on a budget and prefer a EPS foam core SUP instead of an inflatable, and you need it to support a higher weight limit, then take a look at this 10’6″ model from CBC.

It tracks well and supports a high weight limit.

ISLE Airtech Inflatable Explorer Stand Up Paddle Board

If you want to go with an inflatable, then ISLE is one of the best brands in the business and this Airtech model is a great choice.

It’s an 11-foot iSUP that you can take out in lots of different water conditions.

Tower Paddle Boards Adventurer Inflatable 9’10” SUP Review

If you prefer a good iSUP that is a short board, then the Tower Adventurer is a great all arounder paddle board.

The weight limit on this one is 350 pounds and you get the ultimate performance in all types of water conditions.

It is very stable because it is 6-inches thick. It almost feels like a hard board!

Pau Hana Calypso Stand Up Paddle Board with Paddle – 11′ 6″

If you can’t decide between a kayak and a SUP, then this Pau Hana option gives you the best of both worlds because it’s a SUP with a detachable seat!

If you enjoy fishing, then you’ll also notice that this board is the ideal setup for doing a little paddle board fishing – either sitting or standing!

Red Paddle Co 12’6″ x 32″ VOYAGER RSS MSL Inflatable SUP

If you want a longboard SUP, then this 12-foot model from Red Paddle Co is a great choice for heavier people.

Extra stability and rigidity makes this board the ideal vessel for long-range outings.

Increased thickness and capacity makes the Voyager 12’6″ super-stiff and stable, so it’s perfect for taller, larger paddlers and longer outings in a range of conditions.

Vilano Voyager Inflatable SUP

If you’re on a tight budget and need a cheap iSUP that supports 300 lbs, then look no further than this model from Vilano.

While it’s certainly not the best high weight capacity SUP for the money, it is a decent choice if you can’t afford to spend more than this on your paddle board.

Stand Up Paddle Boards For 200 lbs to 300 lbs

If you just need a board that can handle a little extra weight, then this category is a good place for you to look.

Pau Hana Oahu Woody Stand Up Paddle Board – 10′

A classic nose rider with serious island style, the Pau Hana Oahu Woody stand up paddle board helps keep you above the water instead of in it—and looks great hung up after a day of paddling.

Pau Hana Malibu Classic Stand Up Paddle Board with Paddle – 10’6″

  1. Thanks for this guide, I’m a plus size girl living on Lake Michigan who’s always wanted to try SUPs but was afraid to be told no. This gives me a ton more confidence to seek out opportunities to try it out!

    • I’m so happy to hear this! I spent a lot of time looking for all the good quality boards with higher weight limits cause I know the worry of being too heavy to enjoy something like this. I hope you take the leap and give it a try because it’s a lot of fun 🙂 I recommend calmer areas of water to try it the first time – and expect to fall in the water until you get the hang of it. Good luck!

    • Yeah, I think most of the brands are having some supplier issues right now. You can try going direct to the ISLE website (or other brands). I’m not sure what weight limit you need, but this Boardworks Shubu Kraken iSUP supports up to 280 lbs and is another great option for higher weight limits

    • Hi Katie,
Unfortunately many outdoor retailers are experiencing supply chain issues in 2021, but the models above remain the best options since most SUPs have low weight limits. I suggest looking on Facebook Marketplace or a similar site to see if you can find anyone selling a used (or new) version of the models above.
